Reduce and eliminate under-eye bags

Do you suffer from a tired appearance, puffiness or dark circles under your eyes? These troublesome conditions are caused by your tear troughs, the creases that run from the inner corners of your eyes to your cheeks. Tear trough filler treatments can reduce and even eliminate bags and dark shadows under your eyes.

Get rid of that tired appearance

We all suffer from bags under the eyes on occasion. Yet, these can assume a more permanent nature, resulting in a perpetually tired appearance. Tear troughs become more visible due to loss of volume – a process that gradually accelerates as we age. This loss of volume ultimately leads to deeper creasing, dark circles, shadow formation and bags under the eyes. Pronounced tear troughs can also be genetic or present from childhood.

What causes deep tear troughs?

Loss of volume is a major cause of deep tear trough formation. A number of other factors can also have an influence:

  • Age
  • Stress
  • Fatigue/insomnia
  • Smoking
  • Alcohol
  • Pigment (skin type)
  • Sebum
  • Vitamin deficiency

How does the tear trough treatment work?

When it comes to loss of volume, restoring volume to the affected area is the most effective approach. We do this using a hyaluronic acid filler. Hyaluronic acid is a soft, pliant gel made from a natural bodily substance, which reduces the depth of the crease and ensures a smoother transition from the lower eyelid to the cheek and cheekbone. The skin’s volume is consequently restored in an entirely natural way, resulting in a less tired, more fresh and rejuvenated appearance.

We insert the cannula (a blunt needle) via a single puncture hole at the top of the cheek. We then access the tear trough region and inject the hyaluronic acid subcutaneously. Tear trough filler treatments have zero downtime and take just 15 to 20 minutes.

Combination tear trough and cheekbone treatment

Loss of volume can occur in multiple areas. If your under-eye bags have merged into the fold in your cheeks, then we additionally recommend treating your cheeks and cheekbone.

Tear trough filler treatment FAQs

The cost of a tear trough filler treatment varies according to the type and amount of product used. In general, we begin with 1 ml of hyaluronic acid distributed over both sides of the face (0.5 ml per side). Our price list details the latest hyaluronic acid filler prices. Your doctor will prepare a personalised treatment plan during your consultation.

We work with a cannula (blunt needle), which ensures zero downtime and minimal risk of bruising following treatment. Immediately after your tear trough treatment, you’ll notice two small red dots where the puncture holes were made. These quickly disappear and can be camouflaged using mineral make-up.

We need only make a single puncture hole on each side of your face. This feels similar to a pinprick. We then insert the cannula underneath the skin in a procedure that’s entirely painless.

The filler instantly restores volume, so you’ll see an immediate improvement after your treatment. The hyaluronic acid filler continues to absorb moisture and even out over time. We conduct a post-treatment check-up after 3 weeks to thoroughly assess the results. Curious about what a tear trough treatment could do for you? Hyaluronic acid tear trough treatments last an average of 12-14 months. The volume gradually decreases over time and the treatment can eventually be repeated

Empty tear troughs can sometimes be emphasised by dark circles caused by pigment or excess sebum. The skin around your eyes might also be sagging. Professional skin improvement treatments address your skin quality (in terms of colour, structure and slackness) in a targeted manner. We recommend using these as a supplementary treatment, or as an alternative in the case of mild volume loss. Your skin therapist can provide additional advice on alternative salon treatments for improving the quality of your skin. If your tear troughs are effectively empty due to volume loss, then a hyaluronic acid filler remains the most effective approach.

Plastic correction is sometimes the best solution for severe sagging with significant surplus skin. Hyaluronic acid filler treatments are more suited to cases of mild sagging with greater volume loss.

Our clinic works with safe, natural fillers from leading brands. Hyaluronic acid is 100% biodegradable. The treatment is exclusively performed by Royal Dutch Medical Association registered cosmetic doctors.
