Before and aftercare laser hair removal

What does the treatment contain?

It is important to be well informed about the instructions, prior to your laser hair removaltreatment. We ask you to thoroughly read the following guidelines:

This treatment reduces the hair permanently. The laser releases light flashes during your treatment. These flashes absorb the hair and convert it into heat. This converted heatdestroys the hair follicle. Subsequently, your hair will not grow back.
It is important to know that hair grows in different phases and is mainly controlled by the hormones in your body. Hair can be destroyed during the growth phase of the hair.
Per treatment about 10 to 15% of the hair is in the growth phase. The remaining hairs will be treated as well. However, these will only be weakened by the laser. These remaining hairs will find themselves in the growth phase during your next sessions.
For optimal result, we advise 6-10 treatments with an interval of 4-8 weeks.
After 5-10 days the treated hairs will start to fall out. In the upcoming weeks after that you will notice the hair growth has lessened. Hair that does grow back is often thinner, lighter and softer.

Before the treatment

The following instructions are of importance for a save treatment and achieving optimal result.

Skin may not be tanned by the sun. Refrain from using tanning beds or self-tanningcreams/sprays for at least 3 to 6 weeks prior to your treatment.• Do not wax, bleach or pluck the hair 4 to 6 weeks prior to your treatment.
Shave or cut the hair in the area that is to be treated, 1-2 days before your treatment. You can also use a shaving cream. If this is your preferred method, please use it 2 weeks prior to your treatment.
For 4 weeks prior to your appointment, we advise against undergoing any (deep)treatments with a cosmetologist, dermatologist or cosmetic doctor in the area that is to be treated with the laser.
Please inform your skin therapist before your treatment about your medication, homeopathic remedies and cream use or change in use.• During treatment with antibiotics with phototoxicity you cannot be treated with laser.
We cannot treat you in case of the following:
• Pregnancy
• Use of vitamine-A acid (isotretinoïn/Roaccutane)
• History of keloid scarring
• Radiation therapy
• Internal defibrillator/pacemaker
• Active herpes simplexvirus (cold sore) in the area to be treated
•  Insuline dependant diabetes combined with poor wound-healing
•  Extremely suntanned skin

During the treatment

The duration of the treatment depends on the size of the area to be treated. Your skin therapistwill go over this with you.

The skin will be disinfected with alcohol.
Flashes of light are released on the skin, which can feel warm and/or tingly.
After the treatment, a recovering cream will be applied which soothes the skin directly.
The skin therapist recommends the proper home aftercare, making sure the skin can recover well.
Directly after the treatment, a UV-protection with SPF 50 will be applied.

After the treatment

Skin can appear slightly red and feel warm directly after.
If this warm feeling is prolonged, you can cool the area and/or apply the recommended skin repair cream. Within a few hours, this reaction will disappear.• Skin may be slightly swollen locally (perifollicular edema). This reduces within several minutes.
Do not irritate the treated area chemically or mechanically for several days after the treatment.
Avoid UV-radiation the first week after the treatment. Always use UV-protection (SPF 30or higher), especially in between treatments. The skin therapist will recommend the correct sun protection and homecare for optimal recovery.
The number of treatments depends on your desired result, your hair type, age, hormone fluctuations and any medication use.
Hair reduction is possible between 80 to 90%.
Once the desired result has been achieved, we recommend annual maintenance treatments for optimal results regarding developing new hair in the future.
For a small percentage of people, the treatment does not work.
Results will be evaluated per session.
