Aftercare botox treatment

Directly after botox treatment

The skin may be red, and slight swelling, like mosquito bites, may be visible. These usuallydisappear within 30 minutes.
A bruise may appear.
Make-up may be applied with a clean sponge or brush.
Avoid using a sunbed, as bruising can turn into hyperpigmentation.
Avoid using or doing the following for the first six hours after your treatment:
• Exercise
• Sauna
• Treatment by a beautician

Try to remain in an upright position as much as possible immediately after the treatment.
Be careful not to apply pressure to the treated area the first three hours:

• Do not wear a helmet, driving goggles, swimming goggles or ski goggles.
• Do not undergo a massage where you need to lie face down in the massage chair.
• Do not lean on your chin – only applicable to chin treatment.
• Do not wear glasses – only applicable to bunny lines treatment.

24h till 48h after botox treatment

A bruise may still be visible. Protect it with an SPF 50 during the time that the bruise is apparent. Try to do this several times a day. Refrain from using a sun bed due to risk of pigmentation.
The treated area can still be sensitive while washing or rubbing your face.
Some people may experience slight headaches during the first days up to a week after thetreatment. Paracetamol or the use of other painkillers is permitted.

The effect after2 days until 3 months with botox

Everyone needs a unique dosage and therefore has a unique result. However, in general the following applies:

After 2 weeks, the muscle relaxation has reached its peak.
After 4 weeks, most people find the results to be at its best.
After 6 weeks, slight movement might return to the muscles. After that, the movement will slowly start returning.
After three months, the botox will most likely no longer be present. However, the effect is still noticeable, since the movement is no longer present as often. This particularly applies to the frown. The crow’s feet and forehead always have more movement. Many people experience the effect of botox for four to nine months after the treatment.

Can you influence the effect of botox?

Depending on the dosage, the time between treatments and the way your body respondsto it, slight movement could still be visible during the working period of the botox. Thecosmetic doctor coordinates the dosage in agreement with your wished result.
At Van Lennep Kliniek, we believe that some lines are allowed to still be visible, especiallyaround the eyes. We strive to diminish the static lines.

Most common botox side effects

Botox treatment side effects are extremely rare.

The botox could by accident get into an adjacent muscle. This can lead to an undesired result. For instance, a drooping eyelid or a crooked position of the corners of the mouth or the eyebrows.
Botox can cause a heavy feeling in the eyebrows if the dose is relatively too high.
Botox around the eyes can potentially attract extra moisture.
Untreated muscles can tighten excessively due to the other muscles being relaxed. This can give an uncomfortable sensation.
All side effects caused by a botox treatment are temporary in nature and always disappear within 2 to 6 weeks. If you are worried, please feel free to contact us during opening hours.

We happily invite you to schedule a check-up appointment as from two weeks after the treatment.

What botox can do for you

Botox can essentially stop the time of aging. All the while keeping your natural appearance. Botox can for instance be used for:

• Reducing the development of wrinkles in the skin
• Fading existing wrinkles
• Reducing headaches
• Improving skin structure
• Lifting areas in the face, such as eyebrows and corners of the mouth.
• Reducing clenching and grinding of the jaw muscles
• Preventing excessive sweating

By combining injectables with skin therapy treatments, your results can last longer and potentially even exceed the already achieved result.
