Before and aftercare chemical peeling

Before the treatment

The following is important for the treatment result to be optimal.

Skin should not be tanned by the sun, tanning bed or self-tanner. The result can be negatively influenced by activation of your pigment cells (melanocytes). If the skin does have some color, it is better to postpone the treatment for at least a month. If you arrive at your appointment and you are too tanned, we will have to postpone it.
Inform us every treatment about your current product use, for example the use of selftanner. These have a stimulating effect on your own pigment cells, and this may cause pigment spots to return and negatively affect the peeling result.
If you have had a treatment with another specialist elsewhere in the past 4 weeks, or 4weeks after the last treatment, please inform us about this. During our treatments, we advise you not to combine these with other treatments. During your consultation, a tailor made treatment plan will be provided.• Please do not wax 1 week prior to your treatment and avoid until 4 weeks after. Use of retinol and acids is discouraged 3 days prior to treatment. Use of tretinoin (Vitamin Aacid) is not recommended 3-7 days prior to treatment.
Please inform us with every appointment if you are using new or different medication.
Inform us if you are trying to get pregnant or if there is any change in your health condition. During pregnancy you may not undergo any treatment with a peel containing TCA, salicylic acid or retinol. However, during pregnancy it is safe to undergo a peeling formulated with mandelic acid or lactic acid.
Inform us in case of susceptibility to a cold sore (herpes infection) or other skin conditions. Even if it has just appeared after treatment. Sometimes we prescribe or alantiviral medication preventively in consultation. If you have an active cold sore at the time of the treatment, it needs to be postponed or another treatment zone may be treated. Always contact us beforehand.
Please come to your appointment without any make-up.

Preparation with products

Proper preparation of the skin is crucial for ensuring a safe procedure with predictable results.

It is important to properly prepare the skin 2-6 weeks prior to the peeling with productscontaining active ingredients such as:
•  AHA – fruit acids
• BHA – salicylic acid
• Retinol and/or tretinoin (vitamin A acid)

This allows the skin to slowly get used to these ingredients, which will be present in higher concentrations in the peelings. Doing this will also favorably influence the result by ensuring a controlled recovery of the skin. By following the pre-and aftercare advice given and the pre- and post-home treatment (products), you will ensure the best possible aesthetic result.

If you are using tretinoin, you must discontinue its usage 3-7 days prior or 3-14 days(depending on the depth of the peeling) after the treatment and then resume as usual.
Prepping one’s skin has several benefits:

• Your skin is more balanced which reduces the risk of dryness.
• Your skin is accustomed to active ingredients making the treatment more effective.
• Your recovery period is shorter. This allows us to treat more intensively and achieve a more aesthetically pleasing result.

During the treatment

The duration of the treatment is approximately 30 minutes (depending on the type of chosen peeling).

The skin is cleansed with a mild cleanser beforehand.
When the peel is applied or absorbed, the skin may sting, itch, tingle or burn. This depends on the sensitivity of your skin, the type of acid and the concentration used.
The peeling will be neutralized with water or a neutralizer.
After the treatment a soothing cream and UV protection will be applied.
Deep peelings:

After the treatment

Immediately after the peeling, you may still feel a slight tingling, warmth, sensitivity and possibly burning of the skin. This could last up to 24 hours and will slowly subside.
Up to 24 hours after the peel, the skin may show some redness and feel warmer and tighter. Sometimes swelling may also occur. For the first 24 hours after peeling avoid hot showers, sauna, steam baths and swimming.
Mild peel:
• In the 3-4 days after the peel, the skin may feel a bit drier and slight flaking may occur (this is not required!).
• It is very important not to pull on the flakes, to allow the skin to recover optimally.
• In case you are experiencing any other skin reactions: always contact the clinic. We can give appropriate advice to soothe the skin.

Deep peel:
• After 48 to 72 hours, the skin usually begins to flake. This often occurs first around the mouth and next to the nostrils (the dynamic areas).
• On average, the peeling process takes 5-7 days.
• It is extremely important that you do not pull on the flakes. This can cause prolonged redness, scarring or pink discoloration of the skin. It can negatively affect the result of the treatment.
• Since a deep peel has more impact on the skin, recovery takes a little longer.
• The flakes are difficult to camouflage and in some areas of the face, a secondary flaking process may occur. This reaction is normal and a part of the deep peeling.
• Please give your skin plenty of time to heal.

Advice and product use after the treatment

For the first 3 days after peeling, avoid using acids, retinol (vitamin A) and physical exfoliants or physical scrubs. The skin may be particularly sensitive to these.• Wear an SPF 50 daily, or at least SPF 30.
We do not recommend using products other than those discussed in the protocol during this process. This may affect the effect of the treatment and the result.
Once the process of peeling is complete and the skin has recovered, you may switch back to the daily skincare protocol.

Be extra careful:
Do not wax or use any other form of hair removal in the treated area throughout the duration of the treatment course.
The treatment may be repeated every 2 to 4 weeks. With the exception of the CosmopeelForte.
Once more, for all treatments, avoid too much UV exposure and apply an antioxidant andSPF 50 every day to prevent discoloration. Know that hyper- or hypopigmentation (dark and/or light spots) can occur with suntanned skin, skin that is not protected with SPF, use of some medicines or skin that is generally sensitive to pigmentation.
The skin therapist can apply 100% mineral make-up immediately after the treatment to camouflage any redness. This allows you to resume your daily activities instantly.
