The laser and/or IPL delivers a pulse of light with a certain wavelength to the skin. The energy of this light is absorbed by the pigmented skin and converted into heat. The pigmentation spot is heated strongly, which will then destroy it. Over time, the pigmentation spot will be absorbed by the body and disappear. An average of three to five treatments are required, at intervals of at least 4 weeks.

Don’t use a tanning bed, don’t sunbathe and don’t use self-tanning cream four weeks prior to the treatment. In the event of unavoidable exposure to the sun, you should use a sunscreen with a high protection factor, SPF 30 or higher.
Don’t use essential oils two weeks prior to the treatment!

Pigmentation disorders can be treated with the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or with the laser.

• The IPL technique (540 nm) works on the basis of intense light flashes and is a selective treatment. This means that only the pigmentation spots react to the light, so that there’s no chance of damage to the rest of the skin. The short flash of light can be compared with an elastic band that is shot against the skin. This sensation lasts so short that the treatment is usually well tolerated and the skin hardly gets irritated.
• The laser also uses light energy. It is used for pigments that are located a bit deeper under the skin. As with the IPL technique, the pigmentation spots are heated strongly and will be destroyed. The treatment is well tolerated, the laser beam feels like a pinprick. The result is usually visible after multiple treatments. In some cases, the pigmentation spots will fade rather than disappear.

After the treatment, your skin may have a (light) red colour. Sometimes crusts, blisters or bruises will appear, which will heal automatically. If you get crusts, don’t scratch them. The treatment results in a darker discolouration of the treated area. This effect will automatically disappear within one to two weeks. Swelling can also occur (especially in areas around the eye, the cheeks, the chin and the lip). Cooling these areas with ice packs can limit this to some extent. The swelling is also temporary and will disappear within a few days. Don’t exercise intensely on the day of treatment, and don’t take a hot bath or go to the sauna. Use a sunscreen with a high protection factor until your next treatment.

Use the Colostrum Gel and RAD SPF15 by Environ as an after-treatment. In case of strong sun exposure, ZO Medical Oclipse SPF50 is also recommended.

week 1 and 2: apply twice daily.

week 3 and 4: apply once daily.
