Client Instructions Before and Aftercare Permanent makeup treatment

Why this instruction?

When you undergo a permanent makeup treatment, also known as a PMU treatment, we will do everything to let the procedure run as smoothly as possible. That is why we need your help! You will find a number of instructions below. By following these instructions, the treatment will be more comfortable for you, your recovery will be faster, and an optimal end result will be achieved. That is why it is important that you read and follow these instructions meticulously.

Before the treatment

  • Unfortunately, we cannot treat you if you are pregnant.
  • Pigmentation occurring during breastfeeding is not a problem.
  • Please let us know as soon as possible if you are using any medication or if you have a medical condition.
  • Please refrain from doing any sports shortly before the treatment. The hair strokes will not be as tight due to a widening of your pores.
  • Unless it is a medical necessity, refrain from using Ibuprofen, Aspirin, fish oil, blood thinners or alcohol 24 hours before the treatment.
  • You may use Paracetamol.

You should avoid any exposure to the sun or a tanning bed 1 week before and 1 week after the treatment as the pigment may either become darker or ineffective.

During the treatment

Depending on whether any freshening up or a first intake / treatment is necessary, the treatment will last between 30 and 90 minutes. You may go home straight after the treatment without any assistance of a friend or relative.

After the treatment

Immediately after the treatment, you can take up your normal work activities. Please keep your eyebrows dry until 1 week after the treatment. Refrain from using products such as cream, make-up, and lotions on the treated area. Do not touch the treated area during the first week. Do not pick the scabs: these will fall off naturally. Picking at them can lead to infections and will lead to the skin’s rejection of the pigment. You should avoid any exposure to the sun or a tanning bed 1 week before and 1 week after the treatment as the pigment can either become darker or ineffective, or it may fade sooner. This can already happen just after one time!

Please also consider the following:

The treated skin can be dry, red, itchy, and sensitive. Sometimes, some swelling may occur after the treatment.

Second PMU treatment

After you have had the first treatment, the second treatment can take place after 6 weeks. For the most perfect result, 2 to 3 PMU hair stroke treatments are necessary. Of course, you may ask us any questions you have during this period.

Pain relief

Before the treatment, you can ask your GP to give you a prescription for Emla cream. In order to locally numb the skin, apply the Emla cream generously on the area one hour before the treatment will take place.

During the first 2 weeks, you need to protect the treated area against the sun with an effective UV protection factor (SPF 50). The colour will fade and will appear softer. Between 10% and 50% of the pigment will disappear. On some areas, the pigment may disappear completely. This is called pigment rejection and is very common. During the follow-up treatment(s), we will retouch the eyebrows where necessary.   The hair strokes will look sharp and dark at first. This will change as the colour and lines will soften.   We cannot control the healing of the skin. The healing process is different for everyone.

Work and sports

After the treatment you can immediately resume your work activities. However, you should not sweat during the first week, so you cannot do any sports. Sweat is saline and will cause the pigment to leak, fade or not catch on.

Contacting the clinic
